Anthony Caro (Sir Anthony Caro OM, CBE) has been a key figure in contemporary sculpture for half a century. Since his ground-breaking show at the Whitechapel London Gallery in 1963, his work has continued to move and expand in new and different directions.

This year's Summer Exhibition features a sculptural installation by Sir Anthony Caro RA in the Royal Academy's Annenberg Courtyard.
Consisting of five free-standing painted steel structures, Promenade, 1996, was originally created for the Tuileries Gardens in Paris. Taking its name from the idea of strolling in a public place, the sculpture evokes the rhythm and movements of walking.
