The Agony and the Ecstasy
Guido Reni's St Sebastians is the first exhibition devoted to the art of Guido Reni in this country. He was one of the most important baroque artists in Italy in the 17th Century and one of the most famous artists in England until the 19th Century.

Xavier Salomon talks about this unique collection of paintings brought together for the first time ever in their history.

Xavier Salomon looks at the replication and the different versions of one of Guido Reni's most famous subject matters Saint Sebastian and looks at how in the 17th Century artists operated and worked to produce paintings for the market and requests from patrons.

In this second movie Xavier Salomon looks at how Saint Sebastian has become an icon not only in the 17th Century but also in the 21st Century. Xavier looks back at the history of Saint Sebastian as a Christian martyer making these pictures extremely religious as well as sensually charged images.
